Picard (spoilers, obviously)
I rated it really high when I first watched it too. Shaw (spoiler hidden) Agreed on the shaky cam, it really was so atrocious, even when I tried stabilising it, the visuals actually warped, it was that bad. Like the rolling shutter was effected by it. It certainly was very nice to see them all home again, and very iconic. The writing throughout, it certainly is the best fanfiction they could have gotten. Although they really could have done with a bible. They really did get so many aspects of the characters wrong.

Picard (spoilers, obviously)
Just finished the show! What a great ending. Just seeing the crew back together was pure bliss. Never did I think a show about a frail old man could be this enjoyable, but Patrick Stewart is simply irreplaceable. I think I would have had an even better experience, had I watched Voyager first, as this closes the Borg storyline that is continued in Voyager. Despite that the writing could have been better, the original cast just has so much class that they lift the show up a level. I do like that there was a progression in the plot from season to season, with Picard having to resolve his inner conflicts. He accepts having family in season 2 and then he gets a son. Did Q know he was about to face his son, and is that why he made him go through the season 2 journey? To flesh these themes out more, I think the show could have been written in a more cohesive manner. There are questions unanswered and the plot got a bit convoluted. Is Picard still "himself" as a robot? What was going on with Q? What was the energy burst at the end of season 2? Also, some of the writing was lazy. Why the heckies are planetary shields based on a space station?? Why not from INSIDE the shields, on Earth? I also didn't like unnecessary shaky cam. and what does Q want with Picard's son? Jeri Ryan turned down "Captain Seven" spin-off. Bummer because I think it could have been good! I would've watched it if it was available now. Not sure if I should rate it an 8 or a 9. I'd say season 1: 8, season 2: 7, season 3: 8 or 9. That would come down to an average of 8, but the nostalgia of it all, the classiness of the original cast, and the way it resolves plots from TNG maybe do lift it up to a 9.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 2 - The Prism Edit - Discussion
Okay so I have begun work on this edit again, and I think it's pretty close to perfected, I've got a few grinding issues that need fixing but I now also need previewers. If anyone is interested please dm me on fe.org with the source of course acquired, and I'll happily reply. For now here's the changes! The second workprint / final edit is nearing completion though there's 3 glaring issues that need major fixing and I could use insight. 1. The aspect ratio changes twice: The scene where Benji briefs the team on the plan using Spence's edit and the scene of Tom getting out of the ice and the tub scene, using Spence's edit. Not his fault, I think what happened is he maybe ripped the IMAX file? and now I am forced to try and work with it? The music during the house fight to the next scene: I thought way, why don't I rearrange the plot a bit? so I moved the brief interlude with the President and her agents being upset to right after the house fight so we go to the sledding scene perfectly, but now it's weird because the big loud music does not sync to the lower mood of music at the start of the President scene, so now I've gotta figure that out, suggestions are welcome. I'll upload images of my problems too when I get the chance. Here's all the changes. For the edit, this is more-or-less the final cut. 0:00 Opening Logos 0:20 Entity visuals with dialogue from different places to bring us into this flashback / dream Ethan's having of the entity 0:49 Ethan wakes up, Gabriel scene with many trims - all of this was mainly done by Dandy98 who I know is no longer allowed here, but he was friendly to me at first and together we constructed this cool opening, I'd feel off removing it and unsure what to do, so I've left it with credit. 5:16 Into credits! 6:09 Transition into Ethan running down the street to Luthor. Following scene of Ethan & Luthor has very slight trims, need to fix audio or remove (unsure ATM) Everything stays the same till the briefing with Benji and the team at around 27:19 I full-on used Spence's edit of the scene which he was gracious enough to provide, it really helped. 28:58 back to Ethan he's waking up, then just dives to go to the actual watercraft so he meets sub-team and such 29:50 No longer she President sad about her son just cut from map to Ethan talking with the captain about needing a sub. 32:36 Go from the Captain to the team landing on St. Matthew Island 35:51 go from team to the craft then back to team when appropriate 45:22 Grace and the wife of the guy in the dog feeding house to Ethan has been removed, we stay with them, with a few frames trimmed to smoothen so we go from seeing the guy in gear, to the wife beating head with shovel House fight with all the trims back to Ethan removed! 47:48 I have moved the scene of the President being challenged by her advisors to here, so she's talking and blah blah blah, basically we go from Donlow being told we gotta go, to her in order to get us out of the fight and move on, otherwise we go from house to randomly sledding, it felt off. 49:09 transition to the said sledding scene 1:11:28 We have the scene of Ethan leaving from under the ice, the framing gets weird, we go from wide to Imax ratio?? I need to talk with Spence about a way to fix or some1 who knows how to. Used his ice tub scene to remove Grace, it was just akward. 1:59:00 The entire scene with Luthor and Ethan needs to be reworked and scored, I am gonna move around dialogue I decided against killing Ethan, I'm gonna still trim the ending though it's too long. and then credits and that's about it!! Overall the film clocks with credits 2 hours and 10 minutes, it's way shorter, removing a ton of fluff and instead creating for a faster paced adventure. I might still trim some rough edges but PLEASE! :) I need viewers if your interested send me a PM please own the film on Blue-Ray and I'll send a copy of the workprint!! It's not perfected but it's watchable PS: I might trim out all the president stuff near the end apart from the countdown, Pertex Productions on YT made his own edit and suggested it should be cut because it distracts from Ethan and the conflict, and I agree, I've not decided though, It's easy enough just haven't chopped it yet.

Picard (spoilers, obviously)
Hm... That's certainly true. I still think they should make every aspect as good as possible though! But I suspect they deliberately went for a different style, maybe to step away from Kirk's "masculine" 60s vibes. They told Paul Wesley to not try to copy William Shatner's mannerisms too much.

Thank you! Someone told me it looks a bit too "bleak", so maybe I'm re-adding some blues since I de-saturated the blues. I think there's something to it because it looks better when I remove the de-saturation. (image) (image) Maybe it's a little oversaturated now, but overall I think it looks decent. (image) (image)

Picard (spoilers, obviously)
Actually now that I think about it, if they had cast a really good Kirk, he may well have overshadowed the other characters. They definitely wouldn't want that, as Kirk is only a bit part.

Picard (spoilers, obviously)
Haha thank you! Yea right! I wonder what happened! But when I watch Picard I see so many similarities! He has the same look in his eyes, the same kind of "dark" energy about him. Maybe they just decided to change Kirk's character a bit, or maybe just to go for a more established actor. I like Paul Wesley but he is not really doing it for me in Strange New Worlds. If they had cast Ed Speleers I might have decided to watch SNW but now I probably won't, even though I heard it's not bad.

I converted your img links to plain text so we can manually visit the page to see. those are good pictures and I see exactly what you mean, he looks so much like Kirk. He should have got that role, or maybe he couldn't get the personality right.

i should consider setting up a way to import pasted images. hotlinking can be problematic, especially since the top image service imgur is blocking everyone in the UK. and images on external sources can be replaced or lost. best to just upload them for now. or copy them and paste them in imgbb.com

Am I crazy? Surely I can't be the only one who noticed this. The way he carries himself is Kirk-like. TURNS OUT.... He did audition for the role! And they didn't do it! What a missed opportunity!!! https://cdn.nerdist.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/26005249/Captain-Kirk-Star-Trek-Generations.jpg https://i.ytimg.com/vi/fCp0hw8dgXc/hq720.jpg?sqp=-oaymwEhCK4FEIIDSFryq4qpAxMIARUAAAAAGAElAADIQj0AgKJD&rs=AOn4CLBYQYyvGqEBYqj2suqDQmLDXEeRaA https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BYmZlODdlYmMtNWFlMi00MzBjLThkMzMtMGZhNDE0YTQ5ODUzXkEyXkFqcGc@._V1_.jpg https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/memoryalpha/images/c/c2/Jack_Crusher.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20230422013326&path-prefix=en https://images.prismic.io/star-trek-untold/Zjk4MWI0OGItNzE2OC00NjU3LWIyYTItZGRiNDc2MjM0ODhk_balanceofterrorhd074.jpgitoksk4n0fbj?auto=compress,format&rect=0,0,900,675&w=900&h=675

Am now at episode 7, The Force Awakens. Here is a thought. Picard's son reminds me a lot of KIRK. His actor should have played KIRK IN STRANGE NEW WORLDS! Not Stefan Salvatore hahaha.

reworked topic and reply systems for stability
I reworked the topic cards so that they use real links. this way you can see the url and use normal browser functions relating to urls like right clicking and opening in a new tab and similar stuff. The topic preview is now static and the latest post preview appears in a tooltip. That can be improved in time to be more attractive. Topics now open in a full page rather than an overlay. This gives a sense of stability and prevents page elements from arguing with each other. Reply form is reworked to appear fixed to the bottom of a topic or if a reply button is clicked on a post, it summons the reply form and glues it to the screen, allowing you to scroll the topic while replying. Because of changes to elements that are cached in the browser, you may need to clear your browser cache for this site.

reply functionality is now much more robust. you may need to force reload the whole page if you get sent to the bottom of the page when clicking reply. Hopefully the new stability should fix the image upload issues. let me know if that issue persists. Thanks :)

I've adjusted some scripts to simplify. still working on changing some behaviours. hopefully the first change to the topic card should help. so now when looking at all topics in a forum, the behaviour is different. hovering the mouse over no longer changes the preview. instead, the latest post will appear in the tooltip. This is a bit crude, but it is stable for now. I can consider having a more elegant preview window in future. . next step is changing reply functionality. I want to make it more robust so server responses can be more concrete.

Potential new rule for social expectations
I had to get advice from chatgpt because as an autistic person, I struggle to understand implicit social rules. I can often see when problems exist but I don't fully understand what the rules are and why people are reacting. so this was rather helpful for me. I think what it gave me does seem to point towards some issues that have occurred over on discord. My hope is, if I can get feedback on this here, we can ensure the forums grow and flourish. Social Disruption & Community Impact Rule (Draft) Intent: To protect the community from ongoing social harm, even when no individual action is malicious or rule-breaking on its own. Rule: A member may be moderated if their repeated behavior causes ongoing disruption, distress, or conflict within the community, even if: they are not acting with malicious intent they are not trolling each individual action appears rule-compliant in isolation Examples include (but are not limited to): repeatedly ignoring or dismissing social feedback from moderators or members consistently derailing discussions despite guidance causing recurring frustration, arguments, or emotional escalation continuing patterns of behavior that negatively affect group cohesion Key principle: Moderation is based on impact, not intent. Unintentional harm is still harm. Process: Moderators will address concerns privately and clearly, with concrete examples. Expectations for change will be stated explicitly. If disruptive patterns continue, moderators may restrict or remove the member to protect the community. Important note: This rule is not a moral judgment. It exists to maintain a healthy environment, not to label anyone as a bad actor.
